Erectile Dysfunction

ED effects 10% of men per decade of life. 20% of men in their 20’s suffer from ED, and 60% of men in their 60’s suffer from ED.

There are a lot of options for treatment out there in the form of a pill or an injection, and even surgery. The problem with pills and injections is the spontaneity is often lost and some medications need to be refrigerated which can make your romantic getaway weekend less romantic. The other downside to pills and injections is they only address the blood flow issue, which can (but not always) give you the erection you are looking for, but they will do nothing for your orgasm and ejaculation.

Solution: Pelvic physical therapy addresses the muscular reasons for your erectile dysfunction by strengthening the muscles necessary to not only get the blood where it needs to be in your penis, but also strengthens the muscles that help to keep the blood in your penis, giving you more natural and satisfying spontaneous erections, as well as more robust ejaculations and orgasms.

Premature Ejaculation

20%-30% of men suffer from premature ejaculation.

This can be a real problem for a couple trying to get pregnant and is often treated with medications to diminish the sensitivity of your penis or chemically delay ejaculation. Some anti-depressants are known to delay ejaculation and are sometimes prescribed in low doses for this issue. According to the Mayo Clinic, premature ejaculation is considered the inability to delay ejaculation for more than three minutes after initial stimulation. This often is caused by stress in general but can also be linked to trauma.

Solution: Pelvic physical therapy can help you through neuro re-education and biofeedback to teach you the early warning signs of when the “Train is getting out of control” and thus, put you back in the driver’s seat.

Painful Ejaculation

You should never have unwanted pain during sex! Pain with ejaculation can be very distressing, causing people like yourself to avoid intimacy out of fear of the pain they expect to have at a moment that is supposed to be very pleasurable and satisfying! It takes a very well-coordinated effort of several muscles, including the muscles of the prostate, to have good ejaculation. If these muscles are tight, weak, or tired, then they are not going to work as well. If you have tight, weak, or tired quads or hamstrings, are you going to be able to run well? Probably not. This is the same situation here.

Solution: Pelvic physical therapy can teach you how to strengthen, and/or stretch, the muscles so you can take control of your sex life again! This is achieved through hands-on manual therapy, specific strengthening and stretching exercises, as well as electromyographical biofeedback, allowing you to take direct control of these muscles again!

Painful Intercourse

If you have ever questioned whether or not pain during sex is normal, I can tell you that it is not! Dyspareunia in women is also known as painful intercourse and can be due to a number of reasons ranging from tightness of the vaginal opening to a reaction to the lube being used, as well as many others. Up to 28% of women will suffer with this in their lifetime. And yes, pelvic physical therapy does help!

Men like you can also suffer with pain during intercourse for a number of reasons ranging from a Peyronies to testicular pain, or painful ejaculation. If men are receiving intercourse and there is a mismatch between the phallus and the opening, then pain can ensue.

Solution: You guessed correctly, pelvic physical therapy can help with this for anyone interested in better sex, both trans and cis..

A man uses a laptop while sitting on a bed, possibly researching Erectile Dysfunction Treatment in Orlando, FL. The woman next to him looks out the window. They are surrounded by white bedding, a potted plant, and a bookshelf with stacked books.

Beyond the Dysfunctions

We are often taught that sexual function is just about blood flow, overlooking your vital pelvic floor muscles to direct the flow of blood where it needs to be and at the right time. This is a well-coordinated dance of muscles and nerves, with arousal conducting the orchestra.

You may have heard the phrase “50% of sex is in the brain” and it is more accurate than most people realize. Stress at work, home, and even performance anxiety will sabotage your efforts for a romantic encounter because stress puts us into “fight or flight” mode and the last thing we are worried about when under attack (real or imagined) is procreation.

It is not uncommon for me to work in tandem with psychologists, specifically sex therapists, in order to help you regain control and have satisfying sex.
